British Virgin Islands: Coastal Environments and Sustainability Experiential Field Study

The program presents biological, chemical, geological and physical coastal systems concepts to help students make observations and draw conclusions about the dynamics of coastal environments within the context of sustainability and human interactions with those systems.

Domincan Republic: Drug use and treatment in the Dominican Republic

This course will provide a general introduction to issues surrounding substance use and mental health in the Dominican Republic. It is designed to inform and challenge participants to observe and solve problems related to substance abuse, emphasizing low- and middle-income countries. Students will investigate barriers to solving problems of alcohol and drug abuse and mental health treatment, as well as the economic and social causal factors. They will also research addiction issues while examining the roles of local and national governments, international agencies, and third-party intervention.

Dominican Republic: School of Medicine - Medical Community Service

The purpose of this experience is to expose and educate the participants to the 7 Elements of Human Securities in the Dominican Republic and their respective barriers while providing sustainable relief to the local communities. Students will participate in lectures and daily community service activities communities. Specific service projects will vary year to year, but will maintain similar themes. The focus during recent programs have been community diagnostics, water availability, and health promotion.

The purpose of this experience is to expose and educate the participants to the 7 Elements of Human Securities in the Dominican Republic and their respective barriers while providing sustainable relief to the local communities. Students will participate in lectures and daily community service activities communities. Specific service projects will vary year to year, but will maintain similar themes. The focus during recent programs have been community diagnostics, water availability, and health promotion. This program is for undergraduate students who are members of VIDA.

France: Go Green - Sustainable Practices in Business and Industry, School of Engineering and Technology

This interdisciplinary course emphasizes sustainability, globalization and French culture. In this context, sustainability refers to design, engineering, manufacturing, technology, and leadership processes implemented and maintained in industry and business for the purpose of being environmentally responsible, energy-efficient, cost-effective, and socially responsible. Students will visit industries, municipalities and universities such as EDF Hydroelectric Power Station in Serre-Ponçon (largest Dam in Europe), Frioul Island (Organic Fish Farm), Solar Farm in Vinon-sur-Verdon, Vasarely Foundation in Aix-en-Provence, Polytech Marseille - Aix-Marseille Universite, etc. to see various innovative methods of technology, manufacturing, and engineering, as well as embedded sustainable practices.

Germany: Go Green - Sustainable Practices in Business and Industry, School of Engineering and Technology

This interdisciplinary course emphasizes sustainability, globalization and German culture. In this context, sustainability refers to design, engineering, manufacturing, technology, and leadership processes implemented and maintained in industry and business for the purpose of being environmentally responsible, energy-efficient, cost-effective, and socially responsible. Students will visit industries, municipalities and universities such as Mercedes, Roche, MVV Energie, City of Mannheim, and the University of Kaiserslautern to see various innovative methods of technology, manufacturing, and engineering, as well as embedded sustainable practices. Germany is known for its innovative technology and engineering practices and their sustainable culture and business practices.

Worldwide: International Human Rights Law Internships, School of Law

McKinney School of Law students do internships in the field of international human rights law. The substantive areas of their work have touched on many of the SDGs, and can potentially touch on all of them. Since 1997, our program has had international human rights law internship placements in over 75 countries on six continents.
