Term Abroad: Summer '18
Majors: Psychology, Pre-Med
Minor: Africana Studies
Program Description: We traveled from the southern to the northern regions of Ghana, like the route the slaves took during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. We engaged in lectures of globalization, western influence and the rise of present-day Ghana. We ended the study abroad with a service learning project with K-6 graders.
Experience: Studying abroad in Ghana was without a doubt a life changing experience. The things I learned taught me a lot about myself and the history of African and African Americans. I was exposed to a new level of appreciation for where my people came from and the sacrifices they made for me to be where I am today.
Impact: The experience overall gave me a new outlook on how to be thankful for the simple things in life. During my study abroad, we volunteered at a school where the children’s faces lit up over learning a song. It is more to life than just being able to say you did something but rather how did you make someone feel.

Advice: “Good things come to those who go.” Studying abroad adds another level to your college experience. It takes you out of your element and places you in a place where you are less comfortable, enabling you to learn in a new way. Experiencing other cultures around the world broadens your knowledge base and teaches you to think and live differently.
