Global and International Studies

IUPUI Programs for Global & International Studies Majors

Student studying Global & International Studies (GIS) are required to take part in a study abroad program for a minimum of three credit hours. IUPUI-approved study abroad programs, including approved programs on other IU campuses, will fulfill this requirement.  In order to fully engage their regional and thematic concentrations, GIS majors are strongly encouraged to pursue a long-term program of a semester or academic year.  All students should consider long-term programs early in their academic career so that the courses taken abroad can apply toward their regional or thematic concentration.  All students must meet with the program director or faculty mentor for approval of courses taken abroad.  For more information on study abroad programs visit http://abroad.iupui.edu/ or visit the Study Abroad Office (Education & Social Work building, room 2129B) and talk to an advisor.  No appointment is needed.

Note: Study abroad programs are subject to change/cancellation due to circumstances beyond the university’s control

Looking for something different?

This list above is not exhaustive for programs that could fulfill major credits for your degree. You can consider programs outside your major area of study to fulfill general education and/or elective credits or a semester program with English as the primary language of instruction.

You can also consider a non-IU program through various study abroad program providers or other universities. Read about Non-IU Programs for more information on how to start the application process. If you find a non-IU program that fits your interests, contact our office at least 6 weeks before your departure to ensure credit transfer and to learn more about applying financial aid or scholarships.

Please see the study abroad and your degree page for a list of programs that fulfill one of IUPUI's General Education Core.
